Using Office 365

Wigan and Leigh College are now offering our staff and students free access to the latest online Microsoft Office products.

Once you have set up your office 365 account you will benefit from Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote in real time anywhere, any time, on any device.

Complete with OneDrive storage, you can keep all your work online for easy access. This will be offered to you free of charge for the duration of your course.


Initial set up of webmail

  1. Go to internet explorer, the student intranet welcome page will appear. Staff access this page through the College website.
  2. Select webmail , The Office 365 homepage will load.
  3. In the username box you will need to enter your college email address ( there is no need to enter your password. Click sign in.
  4. The next screen that loads will prompt you to select Language and a time zone - (please leave the first box as it is, this should default to English) from the second dropdown box you will need to select the following time zone - Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London. Double click start.
  5. This will complete the setup of office 365 webmail. This process only needs to be done once.
  6. Students can access e-mails by following steps 1-4. 
  7. Staff will continue to access their College e-mail through the staff section of the web portal.




Steps to accessing Office 365 online package

  • Once set up of webmail is complete you will be able to access Office 365 by visiting
  • Select students from the top right hand corner.
  • The student portal will load, select the @ icon which will open the office 365 log in page.
  • The log in page will appear. You will need to enter your college email address ( In the username box.
  • There is no need to enter your password unless you are accessing off site.
  • Click sign in
  • If you are accessing offsite you will be prompted to enter your username (college email address) and password again.
Once sign in is complete you will see the 365 welcome page.
From here you will be able to access your webmail, Word, Excel, Powerpoint and your OneDrive online storage.
Before you can create any documents you must create your OneDrive account. You can do this by selecting The OneDrive icon and following the step by step instructions.


To navigate your way back through the different functions simply click on the boxes icon in the top left hand side of the screen.
